This unit will introduce students to basic genetic concepts. Students will use punnett squares to examine dominance, codominance, incomplete dominance, and multiple allelism. Students will also use pedigrees to examine sex-linked and gene linked traits and how they are transmitted from parents to offspring.
Grade Level /Subject
9th-12th Grade
Biology: Genetics
Technology Integration
PowerPoint
Students will prepare a PowerPoint presentation on Gregor Mendel.
Who is Gregor Mendel and why is he important.
PowerPoint will have a minimum of 10 slides.
PowerPoint must include pictures, animation, transitions, hyperlinks, and text.
Brochure
Students will work in pairs for this project. They will present their brochure to the class.
Students will make a brochure for outlining simple genetic concepts. The brochure will include pure dominance, incomplete dominance, and codominance.
Brochure should consist of pictures and text.
Creativity is extremely important.
Digital Movie
This will be a class project. All students and teacher will work together on this project.
Students will use PhotoStory for Window to make a digital movie of simple genetics concepts including dominance, codominance, incomplete dominance, chromosomes, and genes.
Digital Movie will have at minimum of 10 pictures.
Digital Movie should be informative.
Web-Page
This will be a group project. Students will be divided into groups. Groups will consist of no more than four students.
Students will use a free web builder web-site to make a class website.
Students will work collaboratively to construct the web-site.
Web-site focus around Gregor Mendel and the genetic concept of complete dominance that arose from his experiments on pea plants.
Web-site will include pictures, hyperlinks, widgets, and text.
